NeuBible: A Thoughtfully Designed Bible App for iOS

There are sooo many Bible apps, but to be honest, most aren’t very good. Of the dozen or so I've tried, NeuBible has been my favorite by far because of its functional simplicity.

One of the things I like most about NeuBible is how little it actually does. There's not a built-in social network and no detailed cross-referencing or study Bible components. All of those things have their place, and I understand why the makers of other Bible apps have included them. But I really enjoy the focus and thoughtful design of NeuBible.

What does NeuBible offer?

Search (left, above). It's simple enough to search for a book, verse, chapter, name or word. Just double-tap while reading or tap the search icon in the menu bar.

Highlighting (2nd from left, above). When you highlight a passage, it's automatically saved in a chronological list accessible from the menu bar.

Reminders (3rd from left, above). Reminders show up as a push notifications at whichever times you've set.

Versions (right, above). You can read a selection of different versions. A few are free, but some cost a few bucks because of licensing requirements. Here's the full list:

  • Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

  • English Standard Version (ESV)

  • American Standard Version (ASV)

  • Common English Bible (CEB)

  • King James Version (KJV)

  • New American Standard Bible (NASB)

  • New International Version (NIV)

  • New King James Version (NKJV)

  • World English Bible (WEB)

NeuBible also comes with a ton of different options to change the look and feel. They're all super sharp. I find myself switching back and forth between my favorites. Here's the full list of options:

  • 12 color themes (above)

  • 4 typography styles (below)

  • 5 typography sizes

  • 3 line heights

  • Day/night modes (below)

  • Red letter mode

  • Show/hide verse numbers

If you're interested in NeuBible, you can buy it from the App Store for $4.99.
