Houston Coffee Houses

Local coffee houses intrigue me. I love seeing how they uniquely exhibit characteristics of their communities. There is something positive about a coffee shop that only has one location. The combination of regional art & an owner who created the menu at his kitchen table sets them apart in my mind.

Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy Starbucks on a regular basis. I even wrote a post about it the other day. Starbucks is just easy, especially since I live in suburbia. I haven’t found a first-rate local place anywhere near my apartment, but I have had a chance to check out two shops closer to the center of town. Neither will become my hangout (They are both at least 30 minutes from my place.), but they are fun to visit on weekend afternoons.

The 2 places I’ve visited so far are Boomtown Coffee & Catalina Coffee. They both have casual and comfortable atmospheres. I can sit, read, write & sip coffee without being distracted, but I don’t feel bad talking on phone at my seat. I know Boomtown & Catalina aren’t the only exceptional coffee houses in Houston. So I’ve compiled a list, & I hope to check them all out over the next several months.

If you know the Houston area, I’d love to talk about your favorite places to visit. Just message me at @TimothyBuckSF. If you don’t have Twitter, you can find me on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn.
